MTO continues Rest Area Planning for Northern Ontario

As part of its commitment to supporting the trucking industry, the Ministry of Transportation is continuing efforts to design and build truck rest areas and parking along key sections of highways 11, 17 and 101.  This is the next phase in MTO’s plans initially introduced in 2021 to address truck parking needs across the province.

A lack of truck rest areas were identified as the number two concern of professional drivers surveyed by OTA in late 2023.

“We are looking forward to providing input into this process and assisting MTO and their consultant teams in building facilities at strategic locations that will support our drivers and fleets engaged in both regional and inter-provincial operations,” said Geoff Wood, OTA Sr. VP, Policy.

OTA members who want to provide input into the process are encouraged to view the five latest highway rest area proposals on highways 11, 17, and 101 by clicking here; or those who want to provide input directly to the association to be incorporated into their communications with the project group can do so by emailing operations_safety@ontruck.org.
