OTA and the Gardiner Coalition’s campaign to maintain a continuous expressway link with the Gardiner East (rather than simply rear it down) is gaining momentum. With a final Toronto City Council vote coming up on the future of the highway, OTA is looking for carriers who access the downtown core to pitch in and make sure the least disruptive option is approved.
Those of us who favour the so-called hybrid option – which would establish a continuous at-grade, expressway that would realign the Gardiner’s connection to the DVP and maintain east-west traffic to and from the city – are optimistic about next week’s scheduled vote but are asking for carriers whose operations and customer demands are based on maintaining the most efficient, cost-effective and safest access to and from the downtown core.
Getting involved is super easy and could make a big difference how council votes:
- Contact a Toronto city council in your ward (if applicable) or one you frequently service. Explain the importance of maintaining a dedicated expressway link to and from downtown to your operations as well as your customers and the safety of Torontonians.
- Go to the Gardiner Coalition-backed website, dontcutmeoff.net, and share it through a number of social mediums: Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Linkedin, and email. Share widely through as many mediums as possible.
- Tweet your support of the hybrid solution for the Gardiner Expressway using the hashtags #GardinerEast and #TOpoli.
- Tweet at your City Councillor’s Twitter handle showing your support for hybrid.
