A must-have certification for fleet safety professionals in today’s trucking industry
OTA will once again be offering this popular course coming this spring to fleet safety professionals. The Certified Director of Safety (CDS) course is the only recognized safety manager accreditation program being offered in Canada, designed specifically for Canadian fleet safety managers. Through this course led by certified NATMI instructors, participants will further develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to: reduce collisions and employee injuries, recruit and retain qualified drivers, avoid fines through proper regulatory compliance, and present a favorable public image for their companies in the North American Transportation market place.
The 5 day CDS certification course comprises two separate NAMTI courses (the 2-day Motor Fleet Safety Basics course and a 2-day Managing Motor Fleet Safety Programs course) followed by an examination day. The certification exam will be based on the course content covered in the two courses and general knowledge from practice in the profession.
The Motor Fleet Safety Basics program is designed to provide training on effective implementation of safety-related policies and procedures, with the emphasis on action in teaching safety professionals what they need to do, when and how to do it in an efficient and effective manner.
The Managing Motor Fleet Safety Programs portion of the CDS course is designed to provide transportation safety directors and prospective safety directors with the vision and skills that they need to manage an effective safety program.
Through case-based scenarios, participants will learn how to “sell” safety to top management, foster a safety “culture” in the organization, demonstrate safety’s Return on Investment, and consistently improve the safety of company operations using quality management approaches.
To qualify for enrollment into the course registrants must have five (5) years in the truck safety field, or four (4) years in the truck safety field with a four (4) year college degree.
The registrant will be expected to complete pre-reading assignments, which will be sent upon receipt letter(s) of employment.
The North American Transportation Management Institute (NATMI) is dedicated exclusively to providing internationally recognized university affiliated professional certification and training seminars for truck, bus, and transit fleet professionals. Content areas include fleet safety management, fleet maintenance management, risk management, accident investigation, cargo security and more.
